Which codes begin a Ford VIN?
The first three characters of a VIN are the manufacturer code. Ford road vehicles are registered under 24 of them, for example 1F1 (SUV, registered in the United States), 1FM (SUV, registered in the United States), 1F7 (passenger car, registered in the United States), 1FA (passenger car, registered in the United States), 1FC (incomplete vehicle, registered in the United States), 1FD (incomplete vehicle, registered in the United States), 1FT (truck, registered in the United States) and 2FT (truck, registered in Canada).
In which countries are Ford manufacturer codes registered?
The manufacturer register places Ford codes in 7 countries: Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Mexico, Turkey and the United States. The country of a code is that of its registered operator, which can differ from the plant where a given vehicle was assembled.
Which Ford model lines have had the most recall campaigns?
For model years 2019 to 2026, the lines with the most distinct recall campaigns are Explorer (78), F-150 (73) and F-350 (54). A campaign is counted once per line, even when it covers several model years.
Where is the engine in a Ford VIN?
Position 8 of a modern Ford VIN is the engine code. This decoder turns it into the engine's displacement, cylinder layout and fuel type, together with the body, drive type, model year and plant.
Which position of a Ford VIN gives the model year and the plant?
Position 10 is the model year and position 11 the assembly plant. The same year letters apply to every make, and the plant letters are specific to Ford.
Can a Ford VIN decoder show the build sheet or the window sticker?
Not from the VIN alone. A build sheet and a window sticker list the options a vehicle left the factory with, which the manufacturer holds. This decoder reports the model, engine, body, drive type and plant that the VIN encodes.
Does a recall campaign listed here apply to every Ford of that model year?
No. A campaign applies only to vehicles within its affected range, and the open status of an individual VIN is not published. The figures count the campaigns listed for a model line and model year. The definitive status of a specific vehicle is confirmed with the manufacturer or an authorised dealer.
