In the financial year from April 2025 to March 2026, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) explicitly identified passenger-vehicle exports and two-wheeler exports as the highest ever for a financial year.

Other reported categories also recorded year-over-year growth in FY2025-26. Domestic sales for August 2026 provide a separate and later reference point within FY2026-27.

FY2025-26 Export Records: Passenger Vehicles and Two-Wheelers

SIAM reported passenger-vehicle exports of 905,200 units in FY2025-26, compared with 770,364 units in FY2024-25. SIAM stated growth of 17.5% and explicitly called the FY2025-26 result the highest ever exports for the segment in a financial year.

The two segments together accounted for a large share of total vehicle exports in both years. The FY2025-26 release identifies only passenger vehicles and two-wheelers as highest-ever annual export records.

August 2026 therefore provides information on the domestic market at a later point in time. It does not update the FY2025-26 export record.

Read the August Figures Carefully: Fiscal-Year and Sales Definitions

FY2025-26 covers April 2025 to March 2026. August 2026 falls in FY2026-27 and belongs to a different reporting period from the FY2025-26 export records.

SIAM uses the label Domestic Sales in its public August releases. The August 2026 release reports domestic sales and does not report retail registrations. For terminology, these figures are described as SIAM domestic sales and wholesale dispatches, not retail sales.

The August releases also do not provide export figures in the facts reported here. As a result, August domestic sales and FY2025-26 exports measure different markets and different periods.

The FY2025-26 data show export growth across each reported vehicle category. Passenger vehicles and two-wheelers reached stated annual records, while three-wheelers recorded the fastest reported percentage growth among the segments.
